Donors Still Greatly Needed by Red Cross – Blood Drives Happening This Month Throughout County

The American Red Cross is still seeking donors to help protect the Red Cross’ blood supply. The Red Cross says World Blood Donor Day is on June 14th and with that, both blood and platelet donors are critically needed to combat a “drastic” shortfall in donations over the past weeks.

All blood types are currently needed, especially those who have type O blood. The shortage in the blood and platelet supply has been cited due to the recent severe weather and record-breaking summer travel. With the higher number of travelers, people are less likely to donate blood or platelets.

This Friday will be World Blood Donor Day, which is a day designated to raise awareness for safe, diverse and a stable blood supply, but also to recognize volunteer blood donors. Anyone who makes a donation now through the 30th of June will receive a $15 e-gift card to a merchant of their choice. More information may be found at RedCrossBlood.org/DoGood
