On this morning’s weekly update segment with the United Way for Cortland County:
Community donations have reached $40k to the Cortland Cares Covid Fund, every dollar of which has gone right back out to support the many county residents and programs in need.
Even better still, each gift is being matched dollar-for-dollar by way of a pledge from the Cortland Community Foundation.
Services in the community that have already been helped by the fund include virtual mental health and counseling visits, childcare for essential workers and food deliveries being made across Cortland County.
Funds have also helped supply baby formula and diaper drives, along with masks for seniors and their caregivers.
“It is the essence of what we have always done for our community,” Cortland United Way director Christella Yonta said during this morning’s segment. “We unite the resources of donors, businesses and volunteers to support our community.”
Yonta shared a few personal stories of the real-life difference the community fund is making for hopeful residents.
