Donations Needed After Recent Storm Causes Significant Damage to Preble Cemetery

A storm back on March 16th has caused between $15,000 and $30,000 in damage at the Elmwood Cemetery in Preble. Damage from the storm uprooted several trees with some falling and damaging headstones located in the oldest park of the cemetery. A GoFundMe has been set up by Vonda Sheldon, a resident of Preble who has family members buried there.

Other damage on the property included damage to monuments, the front entrance, and a flagpole. Sheldon says insurance will not cover any of the damage.

“Now we ask for your help. We are seeking funds to help with the cleanup and replacement of damaged stones and monuments.” Sheldon said in her GoFundMe posting.

A goal of $20,000 has been set to help with cleanup and repairs. The cemetery is a private, non-profit organization managed by the Elmwood Cemetery Association. Donations made payable to Elmwood Cemetery Association & mailed to Treasurer Carole DeLine, 2346 East River Rd, Cortland, NY 13045.
