Last night (January 23) was the annual awards reception for the Homer Business Association, where Don Richards was named this year’s Roland “Frog” Fragnoli Award Winner, which recognizes an individual for their outstanding contributions to the community.

Richards is founder and owner of Complete Construction Concepts, which won Small Business of the Year last year  at the annual Chamber of Commerce awards ceremony.

He’s a longtime member of the local rotary clubs and received the Cortland County Distinguished Citizen Award in 2016 from the Baden-Powell Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Presenting him with the award last night was Rob Garrison, who currently owns the very Homer Men & Boys store Fragnoli founded on Main Street in the village more than 50 years ago.

Afterwards, Richards was hit with a rush of emotions he had trouble describing at first, as his head filing through more than 40 years of memories to eventually come up with them.

“To be even associated with him is a really big deal,” Richards told WXHC. “I’m not only honored, I’m flattered to have received this award tonight.”

This is the fourth year of the Roland “Frog” Fragnoli award.

Previous winners include Debbie and Kevin Slack (Kory’s Place diner) the inaugural year of 2017, followed by Ward Dukelow (Happy Homes & Services) in 2018 and Forest Earl (Lime Hollow Nature Center) in 2019.
