The New York DMV is warning consumers to check vehicles before buying them for possible flooding damage. With the recent severe weather across the country as well as in the weeks and months to come, buyers of vehicles should be on the lookout for any kind of water damage and to ask sellers before buying a vehicle online, in private sale or from a used vehicle dealership.
DMV Commissioner Mark J.F. Schroeder states. “We often see a spike in cases of flood vehicles being marketed and sold to unsuspecting buyers without prior disclosure of their damage.”
Flood damage can affect the engine or transmission, corrode wiring, or harm the airbag, this is damage that might not be immediately visible. Make sure you and your family are as safe as possible while on the road.
