Gov. Kathy Hochul’s announced that in 2022 the State DMV helped residents of New York State recover 231 vehicles worth more than $7.3 million and 81 stolen vehicle parts valued at over $67,000.

Both figures represent an increase over the year before, in which a total combined value of $5.2 million in stolen vehicles and parts were reclaimed. There’s been a national increase in the theft of vehicles. Drivers are reminded to lock their automobiles and take added security measures where possible.

If your vehicle is stolen, you’re urged to report it immediately to the police and your auto insurance company so the pilfered property can’t be re-sold or be applied for a new title.
