Sentencing is set for June 14 in Cortland County Court after a jury in the murder and weapons trial of Randy Wilkinson convicted him Monday afternoon on charges of murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
The guilty verdicts follow the fatal stabbing of Terry Walker at Wilkinson’s Northcliffe Road home on December 20, 2014.
Cortland County District Attorney Mark Suben said his message to the jury was consistent.
“Randy Wilkinson murdered Terry Walker and the jury agreed, so obviously, I think it was the right decision and I’m grateful for it, and I think that justice was done for this community.”
Police described Terry Walker as a known drug dealer, something Suben said shouldn’t matter in court.
“If you murder someone, it doesn’t matter how much we respect or not respect what they do. They don’t deserve to be murdered. I’m happy with the verdict. I do think it was just.”
WXHC was unable to reach County Public Defender Keith Dayton who represented Wilkinson.
Wilkinson could face a sentence ranging from 15 years to life, up to 25 years to life.
