DiNapoli Suggests NY DOH Changes Following Audits

Multiple audits by State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s office have found the state Department of Health can take further action to control costs and save taxpayers money.




The Department can do this by making sure it gets the drug rebates its entitled to under federal regulations. While the group made improvements over the course of audits taken from 2017-2022, auditors found continuing errors and weaknesses in following rebate procedures resulting in New York State missing out on over $183 million.

Among the multiple recommendations DiNapoli made to improve rebate collection include reviewing missed rebates and invoicing drug manufacturers where appropriate. The Department of Health says it will take steps to implement a number of the suggested changes.
