Details Announced By Cortland County Officials for Tentative 2024 County Budget

During a meeting held last week, Cortland County officials announced details of the Tentative County Budget for Fiscal Year 2024.

The 2024 budget recommends total spending of just under $156 million, which is over $2.1 million greater than the revised budget in 2023. County Administrator and Budget Officer Robert Corpora explains part of the reason behind this year’s spending increase.

“Please keep in mind that the state fiscal year 24′ budget that was handed to [Cortland County] increased our expenses and obligations by well over $3 million dollars. So we would be doing very well if it wasn’t for those costs that were pushed out to us from New York State.” County Administrator and Budget Officer Rob Corpora said to the Legislature.

Other increases in the budget include raised labor costs both at the County and labor provided through contracts, an increase in New York State retirement, and a 1.96% rise in the property tax levy. The final budget will be voted on November 16th.
