Gas prices have remained stagnant for nearly two weeks even as demand has fallen and the national stockpile has climbed, according to AAA. The national average for a gallon of gas currently stands at $3.41, just one cent less than the week previous.
For New York, the state’s average stands are $3.48, 3 cents lower than a week ago. Cortland County’s average is slightly lower at $3.43 a gallon.
AAA reports fewer people are filling up and oil prices have remained relatively low with prices ranging from $77 to $84 per barrel, much lower than the peak last year.
Though gas prices may be falling slowly, diesel prices have picked up the pace in recent weeks. In New York Diesel prices have fallen by 14 cents from a month ago to $5.13 a gallon.
