The summer demand for gas has fallen now that the Fourth of July holiday weekend has passed, but AAA reports gas prices are not expected to fall.
Demand has dropped significantly for gas as a majority of motorists have returned to day-to-day driving routines. This would typically mean lower gas prices. However, due to rising oil prices, gas prices have remained stagnant. If oil prices continue to rise, it is likely that gas prices will follow.
The state average for a gallon of gas currently stands at $3.67 a gallon, 10 cents more than the national average of $3.57. For Cortland County, prices are just below the state average, at $3.64 a gallon.
Diesel prices continue to slowly decrease, the state average currently is $4.35 a gallon. Just a month ago it was $4.48 a gallon.
