Delvecchio Resigns as Town Attorney From Town of Cortlandville

During the Town of Cortlandville Town Board meeting last night, Town Attorney John Delvecchio announced his resignation as being the Town Attorney. Delvecchio cited his growing law practice as the reason for his resignation. His resignation will be effective come September 3rd, 2024.

“It has been a pleasure to serve the Town of Cortlandville and contribute it’s ongoing success. I’ve truly valued the opportunity to work with such a strong and dedicated team that has kept the Town of Cortlandville a thriving place to live and work.” John Delvecchio said reading his resignation to the Town Board.

Delvecchio noted his time as Town Attorney, which began back in 2019, the Town of Cortlandville has only lost one lawsuit out of a total of 6 suits. The loss resulted in an appellate court reversal of a Supreme Court Decision. He continued on to thank the town and spoke of significant growth in the employees he worked with over the years and the hard work he has seen by those in the Town of Cortlandville.

“Another achievement or something that I am proud of is Gutchess Park. Ted Testa had a vision and it was started back in 2017. People on the [Town] Board then had a vision they had a belief and that vision has come to fruition.” Delvecchio continued.

Cortlandville Town Supervisor Greg Leach thanked Delvecchio for his years of service to the town and wished him well. The Town Board voted unanimously to accept his resignation.

Supervisor Leach then brought up who he would like to appoint to fill in the remainder of Delvecchios term for the Town of Cortlandville, which was through December 31, 2025. Leach asked the board to appoint Francis Casullo for the remainder of the term with the same salary in the yearly amount of $56,339.29 with the 2024 year being prorated. The Town Board voted unanimously to approve Casullo as the next Town Attorney.
