Deficiencies in Sanitary Sewer Lines on Main Street Call For Repairs – Traffic/Parking Restrictions Announced

Beginning on Monday, April 7th, work will once again take place on Main Street, this time between Orchard and West Court Street. The work will restrict the street to one lane with no parking allowed on the west side of Main Street.

Work is being done to repair sanitary sewer lines. The City of Cortland says over the past months, the city has been documenting deficiencies with the Main Street Infrastructure Improvement Project. These deficiencies now require repairs in certain areas.

The sanitary sewers are not the only area where problems have been identified. City sidewalks in areas on Main Street will also need replacing. The city says the sidewalks do not meet their expectations.

“The City of Cortland recognizes the inconvenience and the disappointment that this short-term setback will cause to business owners, employees, patrons, and visitors to our downtown. The City and the contractor both share this disappointment, but this project is too important to our community not to make every effort to get it right.” According to a project update from CrownCityRising.com.

No timeline on how long this project will take, but it was noted contractors will work as quickly as possible. Residents who have questions, comments, or concerns may contact the City of Cortland Special Projects Manager, Eric Mulvihill at (607) 749-7604 during regular business hours.
