With the weather finally warming up and the days getting longer and nicer, the New York Department of Environmental Conservation is reminding New Yorkers that they can help protect their waters.

One of the most effective ways you can help stop the spread of aquatic invasive species is by following the proper procedures for cleaning, draining, and drying watercraft equipment every time you take it out of the water.

The DEC is here to help ensure your boat is clean. Starting on Memorial Day weekend, you will find New York boat stewards across the state at boat launches and boat washing stations. They will offer a free and convenient way to make sure your boat is free of invasive species.

Invasive species can prevent people from enjoying the lakes and rivers New York State has to offer and can even harm native fish populations.
