A set work date is now official for the cleanup of the former APEX Tool site on the City of Cortland’s east side. The date, Monday, August 15th is when cleanup will commence.
“On Monday I met with folks from the BDC/IDA, Cortland County, the company contracted to clean out the site, and the group who will be monitoring the environmental impact. After final paperwork is filed with the state, work is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 15th!” Cortland Mayor Scott Steve said in a statement.
There is 10,000 tons of debris and waste still sitting on the 9-acre property. The Cortland IDA has awarded monitoring and cleanup contracts to certified abatement contractors Arctic Enterprises of Syracuse and Gorick Construction of Binghamton.
A federal grant to the City of Cortland will help fund an analysis of what materials may be in the ground after the initial cleanup is completed.
