Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s preseason poll ranks SUNY Cortland the 22nd best Division III team in the nation this year.
The Red Dragons have made 27 straight NCAA tournament appearances from 1993-2019, tying the D-3 record for consecutive showings originally set by Marietta College from 1976-2002.
It’s the second-longest active NCAA streak in any division, behind only Division I Florida State’s current run of 42 straight NCAA berths.
The 2020 spring season was cut short after 11 games due to COVID-19 and no NCAA tournament was held as a result.
Cortland has made 14 World Series appearances, all since 1995. That is the most by any school since the eight-team Series format was adopted in 1991.
Ten of those showings have come during head coach Joe Brown’s tenure (2000-01, 2005, 2007-08, 2010, 2012, 2014-16).
His team won the 2015 national title, finished second nationally twice (2005, 2010), third three times (1997, 1998, 2016) and fourth twice (2007, 2012).
Brown enters his 22nd season in 2021 with an overall record of 752-205-4 (.785).
Cortland’s 2021 schedule is still to be finalized.
