A GoFundMe page is helping an area Veteran with costs related to a life-saving kidney transplant.
Brewerton resident Billy McConnell spent 13 years in the military, deploying numerous times into combat zones and other countries.
This may have contributed to his eventual diagnosis of Kidney Disease.
His father is the head coach of the NYCBL Cortland Crush baseball team; Billy helps out as an assistant coach and also does the same on a volunteer basis at Wells College.
Donating the kidney was Billy’s own cousin, Ricky. He lives in California and was able to get an expedited flight to New York in order to complete the procedure on time.
Both men are now in recovery following successful surgeries at Upstate Medical Center.
Additionally, a BBQ benefit is for Saturday, January 23 at Anderson’s Farm Market, 5887 NY-281, Homer, NY 13077.
The event run will run Noon to 4 pm.
Chicken halves are $8 and Chicken dinners are $10, which include chicken, mac and cheese, baked beans, and corn bread.
Preorders are appreciated by calling 607-749-5551.
