Cortland Regional Medical Center CEO Mark Webster Wednesday announced a decision affecting the jobs of 740 people and the future of healthcare in Cortland County.
Cortland Regional Medical Center it is pursuing an operating partnership with Guthrie Health Systems, signing a letter of intent to explore affiliation.
Guthrie runs four hospitals and many clinics and offices throughout the Southern Tier and north-central Pennsylvania. Guthrie’s Sayre Hospital is the flagship.
The group’s affiliation with the prestigious Mayo Clinic was well-received by many Cortland staff members.
CRMC CEO Mark Webster believes that Guthrie is the best possible partner to help the local hospital grow and thrive in today’s competitive healthcare environment.
The potential deal could see Guthrie spending more than $40 million to update patient care and business technology and software.
It could be next fall before any agreement and state approvals are finished.
