Critter Blamed For Morning Power Outage

Local News

NYSEG says it was an animal contacting electrical equipment that shorted a line in Willet early Tuesday.

The resulting power outage was centered near the Willet Fire Hall and affected more than 800 customers in the immediate area, according to NYSEG spokesperson Bob Pass.

The company had reported as many as 1,134 customers without service in an area that extended into Chenango County.

Pass says electricity to many customers was restored by 8:30; the rest by late morning. The utility had to replace a type of switch as part of the restoration effort.

An unspecified animal died in the incident.
