On Wednesday (September 15) just after 7 pm, Virgil rescue crews were dispatched for a dirt bike accident on State Land near Lash Road.
The caller was located on Tower Rd near the power lines between Clute and Lash, however the injured party was approximately 1-1.5 miles into the State Forrest near Finger Lakes trail 3.
Units arrived out with the caller along the power line off of Tower Rd and established command.
Crews started on foot along with the original caller to attempt to locate the patient. Additional Virgil FD units soon arrived with a trailer and ATVs, which also got deployed into the woods.
Patient contact was made just before 8 pm and a helicopter was requested due to the mechanism and time it would take to get the person out.
Lifenet Seneca Falls was enroute, but had to abort due to weather approximately 4 minutes out from the scene.
Dryden Fire was requested to help move manpower and possibly assist in transporting the patient out.
The person was loaded into an ATV rescue basket and brought to an ambulance waiting nearby just after 9 pm.
Virgil units cleared the scene around 9 pm after all manpower and equipment were brought safely back out of woods.
