On Saturday, July 8th, the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to Walmart in Cortlandville for a reported fraud complaint at the store involving credit card skimming device.
Recent reports found multiple area Walmart’s in Central New York finding skimming devices on credit card machines this month.
Employees at the Cortlandville found a credit card skimming device on Cashier Line 2, which is not a self-checkout register.
The device was found to have been placed on-top of the actual credit card scanner to mimic the actual reader with the device believed to be only a “slide only” reader.
The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office says the three suspects (pictured) are believed to be the same three that have been around the Central New York area.
If you were checked out at Cashier Line 2 between the dates of July 2nd and July 8th, the Sheriff’s Office asks you to monitor your credit card and if any charges appear to be fraudulent, to contact your bank and report the fraud.
The Sheriff’s Office would also like to remind all Citizens of the County that “if you see something unusual, say something” report the incident immediately by calling either 9-1-1 or 607-753-3311.
