Crash on I81 North Shuts Down Highway For Nearly Two Hours in Homer
Around 5:45 Thursday evening, officers with the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office, Homer Fire Department, and the New York State Police responded to a report of a multi-vehicle crash in the area of the 57 mile-marker on I81 North in the Town of Homer. The crash ended up blocking both northbound lanes creating a stand-still for the evening rush hour commute between the crash scene and Exit 54 (Old Exit 12) in Homer.
As emergency personnel arrived on scene, they found a tractor-trailer had jack-knifed across both lanes. Further investigation by the Sheriff’s Office found there were in-fact, two separate crashes that had happened. In total, there were three tractor-trailers and three passenger vehicles involved in both crashes.

No injuries were reported in either of the two crashes. Officials were able to open one lane of traffic around 7:40 in the evening with the highway fully reopening around 8:10pm.
Assisting on the scene included the New York State Department of Transportation, Ron’s Towing, Stupke’s Towing, and Valu Towing.
