A member of the Cortland City Police Department was reprimanded for inappropriately displaying a weapon at a service call last month on September 15.
Mayor Brian Tobin released a statement yesterday evening (Friday, October 17th) that said “no civilian was directly impacted” and that “a second officer at the scene behaved in a professional manner.”
“The City appreciates and commends the residents of the property where this took place, and are thankful for the understanding and cooperation they each provided,” Tobin stated.
CPD command staff conducted a thorough investigation and found there were violations of internal policy.
As a result, Tobin says the department will review its practices and require continued accountability from its officers.
