CPD Arrest Cortland Man for Refusing to Allow Woman and Child Leave Residence; Assaults Two Victims With Baseball Bat

Cortland City Police responded to a reported disturbance that occurred on Friday, December 9th, around 4am at a residence at 77 Homer Ave in the City of Cortland.

When officers arrived they were advised by witnesses outside the residence that 32 year old Christopher J. Gleason was inside the residence and was preventing a female and child from being able to leave the residence, and that a disturbance was ongoing at the residence.

During the incident, family members and friends had gone to the residence to try to contact and Gleason refused to let them inside. At one point during the incident Gleason attacked two victims who responded to the residence with a baseball bat several times in the hallway that leads to the apartment.

Cortland Police were able to arrest Gleason and charged him with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd, a Felony, Menacing in the 2nd, Resisting Arrest, Obstructing Gov. Admin. 2nd, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, all Misdemeanors. He was also charged with Harassment in the 2nd, a violation.

Police also arrested 21 year old Destiny S. Winters as a result of the disturbance at the residence and charged her with Resisting Arrest, Obstruction of Gov. Admin. in the 2nd, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and False Personation, all Misdemeanors. Winters was also arrested for an unrelated outstanding warrant.

Winters was arraigned and later released to return to court at a later date. Gleason was arraigned and sent to Cortland County Jail on $5,000 dollars bail.
