County Warns November SNAP Benefits Could be Delayed
Cortland County is warning residents who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, may see their November benefits delayed due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. SNAP benefits will not be issued for the month of November until the government shutdown ends, or federal action is taken to provide the funding, the county says
Households who receive SNAP benefits, will be notified on November 1st regarding the status of their benefits for the month of November. Cortland County says the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) will also provide updates online, HERE.
The OTDA has provided the following information for Cortland County:
- Local Departments of Social Services must continue to process SNAP cases without
change or disruptions, including accepting and processing applications and other case
actions. Required notices will continue to be mailed to households. - OTDA will continue to provide additional guidance on communication with households if
the shutdown persists beyond November 1st and SNAP benefits are disrupted. - Temporary Assistance case benefits are not impacted by the federal government shutdown.
- Households that would normally see their November SNAP benefits deposited before
November 1st with a future availability date, will not see this information for November. - Households due a benefit for prior months, including applications received through
October 31st that is still pending, should be processed normally. However, no benefit files
will be transmitted to the EBT vendor starting November 1st, even if they contain prior
monthly benefits.
