County Unemployment Rate Remains Unchanged For August

The latest data from the New York Department of Labor shows the state’s unemployment rate for the month of August has increased to 4.4%, an increase of .1% when compared to August of last year. 

For Cortland County, the unemployment rate remained flat at 4.3% for the month of August. The county, though, did see a decrease in the number of those employed by 100 to 20,600. Neighboring Tompkins County saw an increase in the unemployment rate with August ‘24 having a 3.9% unemployment rate; August ‘23 had 3.6%. The total number of those employed in Tompkins County also decreased by 1,300 to 45,200.
