County sheriff plans virtual meeting for public input

Local News

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office will host a virtual public forum next Tuesday (December 1) starting at 6 pm.

Residents can tune into the virtual meeting at this link, where Sheriff Helms will present on the inner-workings of his department and allow a limited time segment for questions.

Those can also be submitted by emailing shempstead@cortland-co.org — any questions that go unanswered next week may receive a written response if they’re sent in before December 31.

Local police agencies across the state are asking their communities for input that will be used in a plan submitted to the state, as per Executive Order 203.

Plans are due before April 2021 to avoid any cuts in future state assistance.

City of Cortland officials will host their first of three virtual meetings on the police department today from 1-3 pm via Zoom. (more details here)
