County Sees 2.4% Drop in Sales Tax Collections For Month of May

Sales tax collections for Cortland County saw its third monthly decline for the year. For the month of May, sales tax collections were $3.05 million dollars, down 2.4% from May of ‘23. Overall though for the county, collections are up year to date, at $15.68 million dollars.

Throughout the state, sales tax collections increased by 3.9%, according to New York State Comptroller, Thomas DiNapoli. Local collections totaled $1.78 billion dollars, an increase of $66.4 million.

Neighboring Tompkins County saw a 4.7% increase for the month of May, collections totaled $5.01 million. Year-to-date for Tompkins County remains relatively the same as 2023 numbers at $25.23 million dollars.
