Beginning tonight at 8 pm, any employee who comes into direct contact with the public is required to wear a protective face mask at all times, as per an executive order issued Monday by Governor Cuomo.
To help meet that demand, several government and non-governmental agencies in Cortland County have collaborated to make these masks immediately available to local small businesses in need.
The county legislature secured masks through the Welder’s Warehouse in Homer, with the Business Development Corporation and Chamber of Commerce sharing costs to get them into the hands of local businesses.
Coordinating the distribution of masks to those in need is the Cayuga-Cortland Workforce Development Board.
“Keeping our essential businesses open while keeping their employees safe is critical.” said Chair of the Legislature Paul Heider. “The County wants to remind everyone, we’re all in this together.”
Any local business can call 607-745-0072 to secure a supply of masks based on their need, which are then delivered by volunteers from the Chamber, the BDC, the county and others.
Enforcement of the executive order is possible under public health law.
