On today’s Meet Cortland County segment:
Experience Cortland director Meghan Lawton and County Legislative Clerk Eric Mulvihill discussed this year’s 3rd of July Fireworks show, which have moved to a remote area east of the city due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The event is normally held at Dwyer Memorial Park in Little York, but had to be moved this year to the inability to maintain proper social distancing and other state guidelines.
While the exact launch site isn’t being revealed due to safety and social distancing concerns, Lawton and Mulvihill ensured the fireworks will be easily seen from nearly every vantage point in and around the city.
Start time for the show is set for after dark around 10:15 pm on July 3, with a rain date planned for July 5.
Dwyer park will remain open for patron use on July 3, as long as proper guidelines are followed including limited social gatherings of 50 people or less.
