County Legislature Wants Municipalities Within County to Become Pro-Housing Communities

During last night’s Cortland County’s monthly Legislative meeting, the County Legislature voted unanimously to encourage municipalities within Cortland County to become a Pro-Housing Community. Currently, the Village of Homer and the City of Cortland have already taken a pledge to the State of New York in becoming a Pro-Housing Community. The Town of Dryden has been recognized with certification with the state.

A Pro-Housing Community is a program that was created by Governor Kathy Hochul back in July 2023. The program opens opportunities for municipalities to more grant funding by the state. It is now one of the requirements for municipalities to receive a NY-Forward or Downtown Revitalization Initiative grant.

In a resolution by the County Legislature, they say the program aligns with the current values and objectives Cortland County has in creating sustainable communities. The resolution urges local municipalities to collaborate with the New York State Homes and Community Renewals in creating and then implementing strategies that advance the overall goals of the Pro-Housing Community Program.
