On their agenda for their latest legislative session on Thursday, June 23rd. The Cortland County legislature voted in favor to abolish the elected position of County Treasurer.
The decision though was not in part of the current incumbent treasurer, which the county actually states is in support of the abolishment.
Since 2016, the county has had four different treasurers, with two resigning. The current duties of the county treasurer are planned to be reassigned pursuant to the new local law.
The general public will be able to approve or deny the decision on election day in November, as the proposition will be on the ballot for all residents.
If you have any questions regarding the plan moved by the county they ask you to contact the Clerk of the Legislature via email at shempstead@cortland-co.org.
