County Legislature Announces Special Meetings For Thursday

The Cortland County Legislature has announced two special meetings scheduled for Thursday, July 17th. A special Finance and Administration meeting will be held at 5pm at the Cortland County Office Building at 60 Central Ave. The special meeting will entertain four resolutions regarding a broadband telecommunications infrastructure project and also creating a new position of Chief Information Officer.

Agenda items for the Finance and Administration special meeting may be found below:

  • Agenda item #1: Create Position of Chief Information Officer – Information Technology
  • Agenda item #2: Bond Resolution of the County of Cortland, New York, Adopted on July 17, 2025, Authorizing a Broadband Telecommunications Infrastructure Project, at a Maximum Estimated Cost within Cortland County of $7,854,387, and Authorizing the Issuance of up to $3,000,000 Bonds of Said County to Pay the Cost Thereof.
  • Agenda item #3: Resolution of the County of Cortland, New York, Adopted on July 17, 2025, Authorizing the Execution and Delivery of an Intermunicipal Agreement Relating to a Broadband Telecommunications Infrastructure Project
  • Agenda item #4: Authorizing Advancement of An Amount Not To Exceed $250,000 To CNYNET, Inc. For The Purpose of Commencing the Broadband Telecommunications Infrastructure Project

Following the results of voting during the special Finance and Administration meeting, a special Legislative Session will be held at 6pm the same day in the Legislative Chambers on the third floor of the County Office Building. This special meeting will entertain the same items from the special meeting, but also include a resolution to appoint a new Cortland County Title VI Officer.

The special meetings came after the Legislature ended up rejecting the issuance of bonds for the county broadband infrastructure project during their previous meeting on June 26th. The final vote was 8 to 7 failing to obtain a 2/3 majority. Many legislators voting against the issuance of up to $3 million in bonds during their June meeting cited uncertainty and the risk of reimbursement following a tight schedule to complete the project with the state.

The special meetings will be streamed online. Both agendas may be found on the county website. You can find it HERE.
