Last night’s (April 25) legislative session closed with the official approval by the full Cortland County Legislature of Andrea Herzog as the new budget and finance director. Herzog currently serves as treasurer of the Cortland Enlarged City School District.
The budget and finance director position has been vacant since the previous director, Peggy Mousaw, left the office in 2017.
The county has also not had an auditor since 2015, when it abolished that position to create the budget and finance director. According to a state audit of Cortland County released this past March, that was the last time the Legislature properly oversaw the county’s finances.
One of the other pit falls of the county’s financial management has been the lack of a county administrator.
Legislators said at last night’s meeting they do have a field of dozens of qualified candidates from a nationwide search. They’re confident they will name a new county administrator by September.
The next county administrator search committee meeting is set for next Tuesday, May 7, where the board will continue to review applications.
