The Cortland County Health Department is reminding residents they can receive free radon test kits via the Healthy Neighborhoods Program. January is considered Radon Awareness Month. Cortland County has the highest average basement and first floor radon readings within the state.

Radon is the second leading cause for lung cancer in non-smokers, the Health Department says. The only way residents can know if there is radon in their home is to test. Free test kits are available by calling 607-428-5410.
