The Cortland County Health Department is recommending anyone who is 6 months or older to get the 2023-2024 updated COVID-19 vaccine in order to protect themselves against any serious outcomes of COVID-19, which includes hospitalization and/or death.
The Health Department also says the Flu vaccine is also available for residents and is recommended for anyone 6 months or older to protect themselves from flu season.
Vaccine appointments may be made through your healthcare provider, at pharmacies, or through Vaccines.gov.
“I strongly recommend the updated COVID-19 vaccine in an effort to prevent contracting and transmitting the virus, especially for people that are older or have chronic illnesses such as diabetes, COPD, asthma, and heart disease.” Dr. Matthew Noble, a Family Practice Physician in Cortland, and Cortland County Board of Health member, said in a release.
In a release, the Health Department continued stating the benefits of getting updated vaccines outweigh any risks for all age groups and receiving a vaccine can reduce the chances of getting the effects of long-term Covid.
