The Cortland County Health Department is alerting residents of a recall of a type of bike helmet that has been distributed by the Health Department in past events. The bike helmet in question is Retrospec Kid’s Bike Helmets and are being recalled due to a risk of head injury, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission says.
The Commission has said the recall is in part of the helmets not complying with federal regulations in coverage, positional stability, and product labeling, which can lead to a failure in protection in a crash.
The Health Department in a release said the recall affects the Scout Model Retrospec kid’s bike helmets in sizes XS and S. The helmet came in a variety of colors including: Blippi, Blush, Brash Blue, Chameleon, Cool Mint, Matte Forest Green, Matte Black, Matte Navy, Matte White, Matte Burnt Orange, Matte Green, Matte Royal Blue, and Matte Whisper Pink.
“The recalled helmets can be identified by their green hang tag label that lists the name “Retrospec,” the Scout brand name, and the size. The word “Retrospec” or the Retrospec “R” logo is also located on the right side of the helmets.” The Health Department said in their release.
Those who may have the helmet are urged to stop using it and to then contact Retrospec for a full refund. Consumers may reach the company by calling their toll free number 888-488-2369 between the hours of 9am and 4 pm Pacific time Monday through Friday; an online form is also available for a refund HERE.
