County Clerk Warns of Toll Violation Scam – Warns Not to Scan QR Code

Cortland County Clerk Brooke Kemak is warning residents of a recent scam circulating the area of a toll violation. According to Kemak, the scam involves a fake notice from the Supreme Court of the State of New York, County of New York of a notice of hearing for a toll violation.

In the letter, it accuses the victim that they have committed a violation by failing to pay a toll. It also demands a payment must be made otherwise a judgement, additional fines and surcharges could be imposed.

The letter also includes a fake case number and includes at the bottom a QR Code. Kemak says this is a scam and not to scan the QR code at the bottom.

Anyone who receives it should ignore it and report it to their local law enforcement agency.
