The Cortland County Planning Departments says they have announced a new Geographic Information System, or GIS, data portal. The launch was done on Friday, May 31st and the Planning Department says the new system will enhance accessibility to critical county data through an innovative parcel viewing tool.

The Planning Department says there are two distinct options for users to utilize through the GIS Parcel Viewer. Those are a Parcel Viewer Instant App and The Workspace Parcel Viewer.

The Parcel Viewer App is considered a user-friendly web application that has a design to provide its users with quick access. It includes parcel exploration, distance measurements, and simple map printing.

The Workspace Parcel Viewer the Planning Board says is a more comprehensive tool with advanced features available. Those include elevation profiles and in-app drawing tools. It is recommended to use a desktop computer when accessing the Workspace Parcel Viewer.

“Both viewers serve as valuable resources for residents, businesses, and stakeholders to explore Cortland County’s geographic and parcel data. The new data portal will regularly update with more content, featuring interactive web maps, static maps, and downloadable shapefiles, making it a central hub for all publicly available planning department data.”

The Planning Department said in a release.
