County Administrator Ponticiello Marks 100 Days in Position

Cortland County Administrator Michael Ponticiello has now been in his position for the county for 100 days. The county says this milestone marks an important chapter for Ponticiello’s tenure as County Administrator and his focus on understanding county operations, building relationships, and setting direction for work ahead.

“These first 100 days have been about listening, learning, and setting direction,” Ponticiello said. “Cortland County has strong people and a solid foundation. My responsibility has been to understand where we are, earn trust, and begin moving us forward together.”

Ponticiello began his tenure as County Administrator on October 6th, later in the budget cycle for the county, but took up the challenge of preparing the county budget. Cortland County says he collaborated with the Legislature to complete the 2026 budget, balance immediate needs with longer-term priorities and ensure the continuation of services for county residents.

While doing this, he also ensured that spent time meeting with county employees, department leadership, and community partners with the goal of maintaining organizational stability and alignment, strengthening communication, and getting a clear picture of short-term and long-term opportunities.

“Effective county government depends on partnership,” Ponticiello said. “The Legislature has been an incredible partner from day one — open, supportive, and genuinely committed to doing what’s best for Cortland County. Their collaboration during these first 100 days has been inspiring and sets a strong foundation for how we’ll continue working together on behalf of our residents.”

During the first 100 days, Ponticiello says his work aided him in establishing priorities for the county for the future. According to the county, his vision centers on open, transparent communication and strong leadership to ensure accountability and clarity with decision making.

“His approach emphasizes clear communication, professional leadership, and thoughtful planning that balances today’s challenges with a long-term vision for Cortland County.”

“This is about building a county government that operates as one organization,” Ponticiello said. “By improving how we communicate and plan, we can make steady, disciplined progress that delivers real results for residents.” Ponticiello emphasized that the work ahead will be deliberate rather than rushed, focused on building on existing strengths while making thoughtful improvements over time.

Progress within the county will depend on the collaboration of Legislature and its leadership, Ponticiello noted, with an emphasis on teamwork, accountability, and steady progress. Working with the Legislature so far has been constructive and forward-looking, Ponticiello added.

“At the end of the day, this is about helping make Cortland County a place where people want to live, work, and play,” he said. “That means a county government that is professional, transparent, and focused on outcomes that matter to the people we serve.”
