Country Acres Animal Shelter in Homer Awarded Grant Over $280K For Shelter Improvements

Yesterday, Country Acres Animal Shelter in Homer, was named as one of the recipients to be awarded funds through the NYS Companion Animal Capital Fund. In total, 10 animal care organizations were awarded funding that totaled $3.8 million dollars.

“New York State’s Companion Animal Capital Fund continues to make a real difference for our shelters and humane societies across the state,” Governor Hochul said. “This funding will better equip these vital facilities with the tools they need to improve the quality of care for animals as they await a permanent, loving home.”

Funding will go towards helping with construction costs, renovations, and expansion projects that aim to enhance animal care and health, but also ensure adoptions for animals. The Companion Animal Capital Fund program began in 2017 and has entered its sixth round of awarding funding. The program is a first in the nation in funding capital projects for animal shelters.

Country Acres Animal Shelter on West Scott Road in Homer has been awarded $289,565.37 from the program. The money will go towards updating gates and dividing panels, creating two new multi-use rooms, upgrading heating and electrical systems, and roofing for outdoor spaces at the shelter.
