Councilperson, Wayne Schutt of Ward 1, has been named the Deputy Mayor for the City of Cortland, Mayor Steve has announced during the Common Council meeting on Tuesday. As an acting mayor, Schutt will assume the responsibilities of the Mayor of Cortland during the mayor’s absence from the City or inability to perform the duties of office as determined by the Mayor or medical certification.
Schutt replaces councilperson Michaels (Ward 8), who served two years in the position.
“Deputy Mayor Michaels work has been done very well and done a great job. His experience is always appreciated and I know I can always count on that.” Mayor Steve said recognizing Councilperson Michaels work as Deputy Mayor for the past two years.
The overall plan by the mayor is to rotate councilpersons into the position of Deputy Mayor in order to provide them with the experience that comes with being a Deputy Mayor. The position will be rotated yearly from now on, Mayor Steve noted.
The Council voted unanimously, with Councilperson Schutt abstaining, to approve Schutt as the next Deputy (acting) Mayor for the City of Cortland for a term to December 31st, 2024.
