The driver of a tractor trailer now faces charges after crashing into a guide rail Tuesday (July 30) evening on Interstate 81, not far from Exit 11 (Rte. 13) in the town of Cortlandville.
The incident happened just before 5 p.m.
Troopers say 31-year-old Emanuel DeJesus Holguin Mejia was driving at a speed “too great for road surface conditions” when he swerved to the right and struck the guiderail with his front right corner.
The greater Cortland area was in the midst of a severe storm watch at the time of the incident.
Holguin Mejia, of Pembroke Pines, Florida, was ticketed with several speed and traffic violations, along with failing to notify the DMV of an address change and a False Logbook violation.
There were no reported injuries in the accident.
Traffic did get backed up, as the right lane of the interstate was closed for about two hours while responding crews cleaned up.
Everything was clear and all lanes re-opened around 7 p.m.
