Cortlandville man charged in juvenile rape case from March

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest last week in a child sex abuse investigation that began in March.

A report filed on March 12 alleges 32-year-old Vaughn Long, of Route 11 in Cortlandville, had inappropriate contact inside his residence with a 15-year-old.

Police say he and his victim both knew each other prior to the incident.

Long was taken into custody on Wednesday (May 5) and charged with the following:

  • Rape in the 3rd Degree (Class E Felony);
  • Criminal Sex Act in the 3rd Degree (Class E Felony);
  • Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Class A Misdemeanor).

He was later released to the Alternatives to Incarceration Program, set to reappear in Cortlandville Town Court this Wednesday (May 12) at 11:30 am.
