Cortlandville Man Arrested Twice in Two Days

A Cortlandville man was arrested twice by officers with the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office recently. The Sheriff’s Office says 53 year old Wayne D. Eldred of Cortlandville, was arrested on Sunday, May 19th and on Monday, May 20th.


On the 19th officers with the Sheriff’s Office responded to an address on McLean Road in Cortlandville around 7pm for a reported domestic disturbance. As officers were responding to the scene, Eldred had left the scene in a vehicle. Officers were able to locate Eldred’s vehicle and conducted a traffic stop just a short distance away from the residence. 

During the investigation, officers determined he was operating the vehicle while impaired by both alcohol and drugs. Eldred was also found to be in possession of drugs and an open container of alcohol.

Officers charged Eldred with DWI, Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol and Drugs, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th, all Misdemeanors, and Consuming Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle, a Violation. 

Eldred was taken to the Sheriff’s Office for processing and was arraigned the following day and released on his own recognizance.

Later that day, around 9:45pm, officers again responded to a residence on McLean Road in Cortlandville for a civil complaint. An investigation found Eldred again to be in possession of a controlled substance. He was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th, a Misdemeanor.

Eldred was again taken to the Sheriff’s Office for processing and was again released on an appearance ticket. He is due in Cortlandville Town Court next month.
