On Wednesday, December 21st, the Cortland County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to the Thirfty Shopper on Route 281 in Cortlandville in the afternoon for a reported larceny of a purse.
Through an investigation, officers were able to determine 51 year old Carl R. Sherman of Cortlandville, had stolen a purse while the victim was shopping inside the store.
Sherman was able to flee the scene before sheriff officers were able to arrive with the purse. Officers though were able to locate Sherman and the purse he stole in the area and arrested him.
He was charged with Grand Larceny in the 4th, 6 counts, a Felony, and Petit Larceny, a Misdemeanor. Due to bail reform, Sherman was issued an appearance ticket and is due to appear in Cortlandville Court at a later date.
