Cortlandville Man Arrested After Domestic Disturbance on Penguin Drive

On Sunday, October 8th, officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported domestic incident that occurred at a residence on Penguin Drive in the Town of Cortlandville.

An investigation by officers found 48 year old Robert L. Benson of Cortlandville, had strangled and then struck the victim in the incident several times. Benson also prevented that victim from calling 9-1-1 for help.

When officers attempted to take Benson into custody, he refused to comply with officers and resisted arrest. He was eventually taken into custody with charges of Strangulation in the 2nd, Assault in the 2nd, both Felonies, Criminal Mischief in the 4th, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Resisting Arrest, and Obstruction in the 2nd, all Misdemeanors.

Benson was transported to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office where he was arraigned the next day through the Centralized Arraignment Process and remanded to Cortland County Jail on no bail. He is due back in Cortlandville Town Court today.
