During the Town of Cortlandville board meeting on Wednesday, December, 21st, a Proclamation from the Town Board was done to formally recognize the heroic effort from Cortlandville firefighter Jonathan Alteri for his actions last Friday morning.
Firefighter Alteri went to a call early Friday morning on December 16th, for a reported vehicle rollover. Upon arriving at the scene, the occupant of the vehicle was still trapped inside and the vehicle was located down an embankment in a creek.
Alteri went into the icy water to assist in rescuing the occupant trapped inside the vehicle. He was able to pull the occupant out of the vehicle and to the bank of the creek where a rope was then able to pull them up from the embankment.
Greg Robinson, the Town of Cortlandville resident who was trapped inside the vehicle, was at the board meeting to present firefighter Alteri with the Proclamation.
