Cortlandville Fire Donates Thermal Camera to Preble Fire Department
In the fire service, some of the most important tools aren’t the ones that put out flames, but the ones that help firefighters see through the chaos. For the Preble Fire Department, a recent act of generosity from the Cortlandville Fire Department has provided exactly that. By donating a thermal imaging camera, Cortlandville has given the Preble crew a critical advantage during emergencies.
When firefighters enter a burning building, they are often met with zero visibility due to thick, black smoke. A thermal imaging camera changes the equation by allowing them to see heat signatures through the haze. This means they can locate victims trapped in a room much faster, identify hidden fires smoldering inside walls before they spread, and keep a closer eye on the safety of their own team members. In a profession where every second can determine the outcome of a rescue, having this technology on hand is a significant upgrade for the department’s capabilities.
The donation is a practical example of the mutual aid partnership that exists between local departments. Firefighting in a close-knit community relies on the idea that no department is an island. When one station shares its resources, the entire safety network of the county becomes more resilient.
The Preble Fire Department expressed their gratitude for the support from Cortlandville, recognizing that their partnership ensures better protection for the residents they both serve.
