Cortlandville Fire Department Stresses Importance of Closing Doors

The significant fire at Cortland Chrysler Dodge Jeep caused significant damage to the auto body repair shop late last week, but thanks to a fire wall and closed doors, the office and showroom section of the building was spared from the flames.

Closing doors between rooms can significantly stop flames from spreading in a residence or business causing less damage and possibly saving lives. The closed doors at the dealership showed temperatures reaching nearly 900 degrees Fahrenheit via the thermal camera the fire department used.

The fire at Cortland Chrysler remains under investigation. The dealership has stated they are currently operating out of their other location in the Syracuse area. Customers may contact them with questions via 607-753-3352.

The dealership also notes employees from the Cortland location will continue to work at the Syracuse location.
